Tiziana Di Caro Gallery will host the exhibition Ogni storia d'amore è una storia di fantasmi [Every Love Story Is A Ghost Story] that includes works by William Anastasi, Hanne Darboven, Gino De Dominicis, Sol LeWitt, Agnes Martin, Pino Pascali and Francesca Woodman. Ogni storia d'amore è una storia di fantasmi is an appropriation by David Foster Wallace, who has repeatedly quoted this sentence, most recently in "The Pale King," and that in 2013 has also been used as the title of Foster Wallace’s biography written by D.T. Max.

The idea of the exhibition consists in the collection of works by some of the artists that I have always regarded as a reference. Those who have drawn my attention to specific artistic dynamics and that represent constant presences in my taste choices, both for the poetic and experimental nature of their works, and for the "militant" attitude of their research.

Besides being a beautiful sentence, Ogni storia d'amore è una storia di fantasmi, was chosen in relation to a chronologic combination that links the opening of my gallery to the death of David Foster Wallace in 2008. Through my reading of some of his books, Wallace has led me to a constant reflection on art, while dealing with a different thematic spectrum, steeped in heterogeneous references which are nevertheless linked to a multifaceted vision of the world, in my eyes extremely vivid to the point of being associated with a complex yet exclusive niche of the visual arts.

The works of the group of artists which includes William Anastasi, Hanne Darboven, Gino De Dominicis, Sol LeWitt, Agnes Martin, Pino Pascali and Francesca Woodman, lend themselves well to the idea that I always have in mind of "astanza," to put it in words of Cesare Brandi, who invented this term to refer to works of art that go through history, absorbing its experience, without ever ceasing to be current.

Every artistic form has a value that goes beyond time and space. I speak not only of the visual arts, but also of literature, of music as of any other field of knowledge, for which obsolescence is not necessarily contemplated. The ghosts referred to in the title are those "ideas" that each of us tends to elaborate in relation to people we imagine knowing even if we have never met them. In this exhibition, therefore, we do not intend to talk of afterlife, much less of ectoplasmic figures, but of feelings that come from the consequence of "looking," which transcend any physical aspect to become pure abstraction, an act of love when the tension towards the work, or towards the artist, has the upper hand over any other objective consideration.
