Galleria Tiziana Di Caro is delighted to announce …Wondering Where the ducks Went…, a group exhibition curated by Simona Brunetti, with works by Zoulikha Bouabdellah, Katja Loher, Damir Očko, Luisa Rabbia, Pierfrancesco Solimene, Rosario Vicidomini, Saturday 23 May 2009 at 19.00.

The literary reference to J. D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye is the pretext through which this project was put together, one which includes six artists of different nationalities and cultures, and the works of whom give voice to the questioning, the concerns, the urges of a generation accustomed to dealing with change.

By using different means of expression, ranging from drawing to video, from sculpture to installation, the works suggest a wider reflection on art's responsibility towards a time, the present, laden with the many challenges of globalization.

The themes dealt with are varied. Katja Loher opens the exhibition with a video sculpture which puts forward questions concerning the fate of our planet's environment. Through an installation of gold embroidering on black velvet, Zoulikha Bouabdellah invites to reflect upon the opportunity of knocking down the walls of silence and indifference often erected around the great issues troubling the world. Pierfrancesco Solimene personally crafts ancient-looking objects, sculptures which seem to hint at possible links between specific cultural traditions and forms of art projected towards the 'idea'. Throughout Rosario Vicidomini' thirty-six drawings, the homologated architecture of certain suburbs is substituted by a different one altogether, the one of doghouses. In Luisa Rabbia's drawing, a body hidden by enigmatic weft suggests a mystery suddenly disrupting the perception of daily life.

The exhibition ends with a video projection by Damir Očko, a melancholic trip around the massive buildings of the University Hospital built in Croatia in the 80s, a place deserted by man and time, thus given back to a people's history and identity.

Just like the main character in Salinger's novel, a symbol of youth's restlessness, the questioning artist does not aim at giving answers, but at bringing awareness to an art where questions become opportunities to decrypt the present, to grow individually and collectively. Simona Brunetti
