The exhibition project Identity Beyond Borders, curated by Benedetta Carpi De Resmini, explores the relationship between humans and nature, investigating the concepts of identity, conflict and coexistence in a context marked by environmental crises, globalization, and social transformations.
Promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the project consists of three exhibitions organized in collaboration with Cities Art Projects and the Italian Cultural Institutes of Berlin (June 19 – July 21, 2025), Vilnius (September 18 – October 19, 2025), and La Valletta (June 2026).
Each venue will offer unique perspectives and interventions designed in dialogue with the location, enhancing the specificity of each space and amplifying the exhibition’s message through multiple interpretations. In particular, some artists have created site-specific works for the Berlin exhibition: Elena Bellantoni, Martina della Valle, and Tomaso Binga.
“Identity Beyond Borders encompasses many of the essential elements of cultural diplomacy: the circulation in key venues on the international stage, the value of synergies with partners in the cultural sector, and the promotion abroad of Italian artists, including emerging talents, made possible thanks to the diplomatic-cultural network of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation,” comments Marco Maria Cerbo, Head of the Unit for the Coordination of Italian Cultural Institutes.
The curatorial choice focuses on the female artists featured in the Farnesina Collection. The curator explains: “The works on display were not selected based on gender, but rather identified following an in-depth analysis of the Farnesina Collection, conducted within the framework of the theme I initially chose to address. From this analysis, it emerged that these subjects are predominantly explored by female artists. The focus arises from the awareness of the deep and symbolic connection that historically links women to nature. Traditionally associated with fertility, care, and Mother Earth, women offer a sensitive and critical perspective on themes of sustainability, ecological crisis, and identity.”
The selected works therefore reflect not only the relationship between humans and the environment, but also the position of women in the contemporary discourse on regeneration, ecology, and social justice. At a time of growing planetary urgency, Identity Beyond Borders presents art as a tool for awareness and change.
