To mark the 2500th anniversary of the founding of Naples, the Italian Embassy in the Kingdom of Morocco and the Italian Cultural Institute in Rabat, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and under the auspices of the Neapolis 2500 National Committee, present the exhibition 'Arte dal Vulcano' (Art from the Volcano), which will open its doors on Monday 8 December 2025 at the Palazzo delle Istituzioni Italiane in Tangier and will remain open until 11 January 2026.
The exhibition recounts the vitality and continuity of the Neapolitan and Campania artistic tradition, with works from the post-war period to the present day. The evocative title refers to Vesuvius as a symbol of energy, creativity and regenerative capacity, characteristics that have always distinguished the artistic production of the city of Naples.
The scientific curatorship is entrusted to Angela Tecce, President of the Donnaregina Foundation for Contemporary Arts – Madre Museum, and Claudia Borrelli, Head of Collections at the Museo del Novecento in Naples at Castel Sant'Elmo, who have conceived an exhibition itinerary capable of highlighting the plurality of languages and visions of the Campania region, offering the international public an up-to-date view of the Neapolitan art scene.
The exhibition includes 29 works, including paintings, sculptures, photographs and installations, from the Neapolitan public collections Madre – Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Donnaregina and Museo del Novecento in Castel Sant'Elmo, by some of the most representative contemporary artists: Marisa Albanese, Carlo Alfano, Antonio Biasiucci, Paolo Bini, Tomaso Binga, Diego Cibelli, Alessandra Cianelli, Francesco Clemente, Giulio Delvè, Maria Adele Del Vecchio, Sergio Fermariello, Eugenio Giliberti, Mimmo Jodice, Nino Longobardi, Luigi Mainolfi, Domenico Antonio Mancini, Giuseppe Maraniello, Raffaela Mariniello, Umberto Manzo, Raffaela Naldi Rossano, Mimmo Paladino, Giulia Piscitelli, Paolo Puddu, Luciano Romano, Rosy Rox, Marinella Senatore, Lorenzo Scotto di Luzio and Ernesto Tatafiore.
The inauguration will be accompanied by a musical performance that combines art and tradition: Emilia Zamuner's voice and Alessandro Morlando's guitar will interpret pieces from the Neapolitan classical repertoire, thanks to the collaboration with CIDIM – Comitato Nazionale Italiano Musica (Italian National Music Committee) and the support of the Ministry of Culture.
The exhibition is part of the symbolic context of the Bicentenary of Diplomatic Relations between Italy and Morocco, strengthening the deep cultural bond between the two countries. “Arte dal Vulcano” thus represents an important opportunity for cultural diplomacy, promoting awareness abroad of Italy's creative heritage and the museums that preserve it.
The choice of the Palazzo delle Istituzioni Italiane in Tangier, a jewel of Moorish architecture, gives the exhibition a special symbolic value: a meeting place where the memory of Naples, with its inexhaustible energy, dialogues with the cosmopolitan vitality of Tangier, a city that preserves a thousand Mediterranean traditions and charms.
