Per un prossimo reale is a series of seven wall drawings created exclusively for PANORAMA I Procida by Antonio Della Guardia (Salerno, 1990).
Behavioral models linked to changes in society are the basis of Antonio Della Guardia's research, and in recent years he has focused on the impact that certain work patterns have on the lives of individuals as well as on the community. To tell about these dynamics, he uses drawing, photography, video, and installation.
Starting from the studies of William Horatio Bates (1860-1931), an American doctor known for having developed a method of re-educating sight without the use of glasses, Antonio Della Guardia designs a series of exercises that he defines as "escape techniques".
These escape techniques are implemented in order to poetically counteract the consequences of prolonged and forced exposure of the gaze to digital light sources, or more generally to counteract the defects caused by obsessive and prolonged work.
The exercises included in the Per un prossimo reale project will be available on the façade of the La casa sul Mare hotel, along the Salita Castello. The seven exercises have been designed to be carried out on Procida, so Della Guardia invites visitors to explore the island to find the ideal place to do that particular exercise.
In this work by Antonio Della Guardia, the boundary between reality and fiction, between the scientific and poetic approach is thin and sometimes imperceptible. Anyone who comes across these exercises appropriates them before even questioning their actual effectiveness, and in this sense the artist's goal of making a gym for the imagination available to anyone who wants to reach it is available.
The project includes seven exercises so that everyone has the opportunity to do one for each day of the week freely.
