"Seul le silence" is the title of a series of collages Betty Danon created in 1990. 

These small-scale works feature various types of paper and a predominance of gold, silver, and pastel hues that form the background for writings, sometimes photocopied and sometimes in ink, showcasing the artist's handwriting. These writings overlap and accumulate in different directions, becoming increasingly difficult to decode and obscuring their meaning.

The concept of automatic writing, where the graphemes are recognizable but the meaning remains hidden, has been a recurring theme throughout Betty Danon's work.

As Betty Danon stated, "[...] Silence in art leaves viewers or readers alone with their own projections. We might as well leave ourselves indifferent and deaf in a state of total incommunicability: exactly as silence does [...]. "

In this context, the title plays a crucial role: despite the multitude of words and thoughts, it seems that what remains is "only silence."
